The interrelation of camera settings will always be a mystery to me. (I have spent hours reading articles on the Cambridge in Colour site and still can't grasp it all.) However, I am now getting the results that I want, so everything is fine.

Thanks for all your help!

Without trying to re-explain the Exposure Triangle <- Done much better there, I'll simply point if you keep exposure constant and aperture constant, increasing your ISO will necessitate a faster shutter speed, which effectively mitigates the undesirable effects of hand-shake.

All things the same, if you double ISO, you have to double shutter speed to keep the same exposure. And with your camera, you can explore MUCH higher ISO than with an older gen camera without getting all that nasty grain.

Is the F-stop the aperture?  I forget.

Yes, I figured out that if I increase the ISO, then the camera must either use a faster shutter speed or a smaller aperture.  As I said in another post, the camera had been selecting F-stops of 3.5 to 4.5.  When I increased the ISO, the camera started selecting F-stops of 4.5 to 5.6.  Does that explain it?

You know, it's terribly ironic.  I joined Mensa once to prove to myself that I was smart, but my comprehension of camera settings remains fuzzy.  I've spent hours reading about it, but the concepts just won't gel in my mind.

(The IQ test that got me into Mensa was one that tests primarily language skills.  I do much poorer on IQ tests that measure things like spatial concepts.)
