The interrelation of camera settings will always be a mystery to me. (I have spent hours reading articles on the Cambridge in Colour site and still can't grasp it all.) However, I am now getting the results that I want, so everything is fine.

Thanks for all your help!

Without trying to re-explain the Exposure Triangle <- Done much better there, I'll simply point if you keep exposure constant and aperture constant, increasing your ISO will necessitate a faster shutter speed, which effectively mitigates the undesirable effects of hand-shake.

All things the same, if you double ISO, you have to double shutter speed to keep the same exposure.  And with your camera, you can explore MUCH higher ISO than with an older gen camera without getting all that nasty grain.
