If you want, try F/4 with ISO 100 and hopefully a shutter speed of at LEAST 1/30, 1/60 ideally.

No, because I can't tell simply from looking at the camera's LCD if I have set the EC right.  I only know for sure when looking at the photos on my computer afterward.

It turns out that the solution to my problem was to manually set the ISO to 400 instead of letting the camera select it (it was usually selecting 200).  Now all my photos are sharp from edge to edge.
