Wonderful Results!

Several people have posted since I looked at this thread early this morning, and I will reply to them individually.  However, I want to report the wonderful news that I have from today's shooting.

I set the ISO to 400, and now all of my photos are coming out tack sharp.  I took a couple hundred shots this afternoon after I got up, and I randomly looked at about 20 of them, and they were all sharp from edge to edge except one.  The one photo that was a little soft on one side was a photo which I took closer up because the beads (those my products) didn't fill the entire width of the plate -- yet other shots in that series were sharp.  So if I always keep my distance of about 18" (and not move in to, say, 15" for some shots), all my photos should now come out perfectly sharp.  I am absolutely stupefied that making this one change has cleared up the entire problem.

Previously, when leaving it up to the camera to select the ISO, it was usually selecting 200.  Simply setting it to 400 has solved the entire problem.

I am so thrilled by this result that I am even feeling emotional.  The 400 ISO shots are sharp, and there is no visible degradation from the increased ISO.  With my old camera, I couldn't go above ISO 100 without getting blurry shots (blurry due to the limitations of the small sensor).  In addition to all this, the colors are far more true with this camera than they were with my old point-and-shoot.  I am so happy I could cry!

I compared camera settings from yesterday's photos, and I'm sorry to say that I can't interpret the settings well enough to know what has made the difference.  The F-stop has stayed the same at about 3.5, but the exposure times actually increased slightly.  The interrelation of camera settings will always be a mystery to me.  (I have spent hours reading articles on the Cambridge in Colour site and still can't grasp it all.)  However, I am now getting the results that I want, so everything is fine.

Thanks for all your help!
