NIKON D810 BATTERY GRIP

Well, I might be OCD but you surely have no sense of humor.
I had a chuckle at this comment you made.

"It might be a psychological factor but it's like seeing a hot girl who has a detail that bothers you very much. It does not feels complete." :-D :-D

The bottom of the base of the D810 is exactly the same as the D800, the only difference is in the depth of the base plate therefore the MB-D12 fits exactly the same on both of them.

S
We can argue this until our faces are red or blue (or both) but it won't change the OP's view that MB-D12 does not fit. Everybody is entitled his/hers opinion, I'm 100% happy with D810+MB-D12 -combo.

Let's see whether Nikon introduces a new grip with D750. Then this forum is flooded with angry posts claiming how greedy b*stard Nikon is.

Nikon confirmed that the MB-D12 is not the handgrip for the d810 as it was designed for the d800, but it is compatible with the d810.

To me, as a professional, it bothers me that Nikon does not have a specific hand grip for the d810.

It makes me feel as the d810 is a prosumer camera.

It might be a psychological factor but it's like seeing a hot girl who has a detail that bothers you very much. It does not feels complete. It bothers me so much that I might buy a clone and experiment by building a top molding around the d810 with a 3d printer in my spare time.
Please cite your source, name, email address, post the actual email or letter you received, that shows that Nikon confirmed that this is not the grip for the D810. I just checked the Nikon USA site again, and it sure lists it under the Accessories section. Funny thing, it says EXACTLY the same thing on the D800 page, "compatible", so I guess the MB-D12 isn't made for anything specific .....

So far I have been unable to corroborate your contention that Nikon has acknowledged that there is, or should be, a different grip. Perhaps you would also be happier if they had made a different battery? (Now THAT is one that drives me nuts ....)

seen in a long time. Frankly, if you don't think it "professional" looking enough, get something else. Obviously many people, myself included, are seeing no functional issues whatsoever. After all, isn't the point to have it work? As an aside, I read the reviews on the grip on the Nikon USA site. Interesting that not many complaints on functionality, but people sure don't like the price, and neither did I ;-)

For those with functional issues, I would certainly have that looked into either by Nikon or APS.

FYI MR. UTO at Nikon, after surprisingly noticing the difference, he kindly told me that engineering has been informed.

Bill,

the d800 with the MB-d12 looks like a one body camera. The d810 does not, that's all.

That is all my post was, sharing a personal experience with a camera to know if my camera was faulty or who knows what.

I really don't understand all the fuzz.

The fuzz here is because some (most) of us do not share your view. If you look at the images I linked previously one can notice that yes, D800 + MB-D12 is designed to have smoothier design at lower right corner compared to D810+MB-D12 (see below).

D810+MB-D12: http://lensvid.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/06/D810-grip.jpg

What we are arguing here is that it won't affect the functionality and even the initial design is ugly as h*ll, therefore the D810-fit is not that big deal.

It may be so that Nikon will come up with another grip for D810 with redesigned top plate but definitely I do not see any reason to put up another $450 just to fix a nonexistent problem.

But we all are entitled of our opinions, your's are as good as mine.

Wow, you have a name, this means nothing. President Barack Obama told me .... ;-)

I still challenge you to prove what you say regarding Nikon acknowledging "this is not the D810 grip". I have mounted my grip, the only "light leak" I can see is the one through the wheel that tightens the grip. The only way I can see light is to barely tighten the wheel, and then the grip wiggles.

The "fuss" is your completely unwarranted claims that Nikon has acknowledged that there is a problem, that this grip, even though both the D800 and D810 pages as I pointed out, show the grip as "compatible", is NOT the D810 grip. As many have pointed out, big deal. If you can't stand the way it looks, simply say so and move on. Beauty, after all, is the eye of the beholder, right?

You justify your point by saying "Mr. Uto told me", if this was a problem, you don't think Nikon would acknowledge it? Look at the "white dot" issue for an example.

I purchased a D810 with battery grip last week (Aug. 28) and the grip not only didn't fit well, but didn't consistently fire nor did it power the camera. Now I'm waiting for a replacement, and I don't know how long that will take. Absurd!

Hey dude dint worry about what others say, I have a D810 and was thinking about a grip and wont now because of this tread so thank you, I would be angry too spending over 200 on a Nikon grip that wasn't really meant for the camera, you did well to post this,

I would like to ask, who said they are making a new grip for the D810?
