Re: Exposure with back button focus question

So I have assigned focus to the AEL button on my A6000 and turned off the focus lock with shutter. Lets say, for example that I want to meter off one object and focus on another for some reason. Is there a way to do this? If I push the AEL button that will lock focus. I thought half depressing the shutter button while pointing the camera at the relevant subject I want to expose for would lock exposure, but as I move the camera around I notice that shutter speed and ISO change (in this example I am using Aperture priority).

Do I have to shoot in manual mode to lock the exposure in?

I was surprised to find that holding a half press on the shutter button on the A6000 does not lock exposure, as I am sure this was standard behaviour on all the DSLRs I have used.

For the moment, to get around this I have set the C2 button to AEL toggle - and this shows a star on the display when exposure is locked, but would prefer to do this on the shutter button if it is possible.

In the past I would use this technique quite a lot in order alter the exposure without having to bother with exposure compensation  For example where a bright sky was getting burned out I would half press the shutter to lock exposure with the camera pointed up to put more sky in the frame, and then recompose. This would fool the camera into a reduced exposure, with highlights preserved, and I could then brighten the foreground in post processing.
