Experience/Pros/Cons of Tamron 17-50 mm 2.8?

Fellow Pentaxians,

I'm considering options for a lens purchase.  The Tamron referenced above nearly fits perfectly in the budget I have set aside (which includes the purchase of a new K-3 with grip, flash, card from BH).  I've read some reviews that indicate potential front focusing issues/problems with this model of lens.  Also some reviews indicate it may not be as bright as competitive offerings from Pentax and Sigma.  I'm not too concerned about the latter (it conveying a little less light, i.e. T-stop issue) as long as it's a true F2.8 lens, i.e. not sacrificing DOF performance at wide open compared to the other lenses at WO.

I'm inclined to take the risk, but figured I'd inquire with all of you first.

Thanks in advance for any input/advice.
