that shows the adapter barrel and filters. But I'm most interested in an added macro attachment for the camera. My last camera was a samsung sl420 and I often needed to take closer macro than the camera was capable of in order to post images of smd (surface mount devices and miniature circuit boards) to electronics forums. I discovered that the front elementscavenged from a pair of binoculars was a useful optic to hand-hold in front of the lens. Auto focus worked as usual and I was able to get very useful macro shots, although with barreling unacceptable for fine photography.

I was excited to see that the EX2F, which I have ordered and should arrive in a week or so, sported a threaded barrel capable of accomodating an accessory macro front lens. But strangely I cannot find a single reference to it beyond the site I linked that does not ship to the U.S.

I couldn't tell if there's threading on the lens.  If not, you'd need some conversion attachment and then add an X diopter close-up ''filter'' lens (like Canon 500D or 250D).  If there' threading, you can screw in such a lens as is or with step up adapter rings.  I'd inspect your camera when it arrives to make sure.

On the note of SMD, incidentally I've done a fair bit of component shots with my old superzoom camera that had filter threading + Canon 500D close-up lens + tripod.
