Stabilisation chatter.

Thanks to all for the input. It will get a workout this weekend at the state fair.

I can get 3 stops advantage out of the lowly and worse 2 axis stabilisation on my E-PL1 and E-PL5 (or with the Panasonic Mega OIS when on the E-PL5) so in my case I would expect the 3 axis stabilisation of the E-M10 could give me closer to 4 stops advantage.

Meanwhile, test it for yourself.

The usually accepted non-stabilised  borderline shutter speed for a 25mm lens on M4/3 is 1/50 second, below that shake is more likely, above that less likely.

So a series of un-stabilised shots around that shutter speed should give an answer to what your normal hand-holding ability is.

Then turn on stabilisation and I would personally start testing my ability with the E-M10 and 25mm based around about 3 stops slower, that is around 1/6 second. But of course subject movement is the problem then so you need static subjects in low light to test your ability with and without stabilisation.

Not so much a worry with 25mm but when you get a 40-150mm lens then at 150mm the borderline non-stabilised shutter speed becomes 1/300 sec so things get more critical in lower light.
