Cedar Waxwings with the 300mm f4 af-s
9

I had the opportunity today to try out a 300/f4 af-s lens with the AF-I TC14-E on my D800. I was really impressed with the sharpness of the 300/f4 wide open without the TC. With the TC, I stopped down one stop in order to improve sharpness and gain a little depth of field. My shots were handheld with some support from a fence when I was able. I definitely could have shot with a lower shutter speed and gained some ISO, but the birds were moving around fairly quickly. Next time I'll do better. Overall I really liked the combo and I'll definitely take it out for some early morning birding in the near future.
