Henry's lists the EF-M lens at about $410. I got my EF-S 55-250STM for about $325. The latter is faster and has a wider range. I smell a bit of fanboyism around the EF-M lens.

[Watch the predictable backlash now...]

I didn't have either lens, but choose to get the EFM 55-200mm in spite of its being marginally slower and more importantly having a shorter maximum range than the 55-250mm because of the significant size difference.  I already have the 70-200L lens when I need that range on my 5D so wanted a lens that specifically continued the size and weight advantages of the M system.  With the four EFM lenses now available and the addition of extension tubes, a Canon 52mm close-up lens and fillters I now have a system that can photograph almost anything that I might want to (as long as it isn't fast moving) that I can still carry comfortably in a ThinkTank Photo Speed Demon waist pack.

But when I went whale watching recently and wanted to photograph the whales I took the 5d and 70-200mmL with a 2X extension tube, not the M.
