So do I need to open the zip file before I drag it into the sd card?

Gordon,

I'm on OSX 10.9.4 but process will be same for you.

Download v4.0 from Ricoh's support site. It does not come in a zip file, but will simply place the ".frm" file in your Mac downloads folder. See .frm file icon to right of my screen shot above.

Drag this .frm file to your SD card. It should not be in any folder otherwise the GR will not see it.

Insert your card into the GR. Turn camera ON.

Hit the "menu OK" button.

Select "Setup" Menu and scroll to bottom and right click on the "Confirm Firmware Version" function.

You'll then be asked to confirm that you want to update the firmware from V.xx to V4.0. Click OK and you'll be all set.

After install is complete you can go back to the "Confirm Firmware" function and click on it to confirm the GR installed V4.0.

Make sure you reformat the card in the GR so you've got a fresh card with no .frm file on it.

Hope this helps and enjoy your GR. It's a very addictive camera.

Cheers,

Ned

I just copied your instructions and it worked perfectly..

Thx

Doug

Glad it was helpful, Doug. Hope you enjoy shooting with your GR!

Ned
