You've had some good responses already. The traditional wisdom would be that the 2.8 lens is the one to get for the type of shooting you're talking about. If you would mostly be shooting with flash, there isn't much, if any, difference in IQ between the two (I've tested the Nikon 24-70 against the 24-120 in this type of scenario). f/2.8 isn't really fast enough for available light work anyway, so I don't think you would be at much of a disadvantage with the f4 lens. The one thing that would be less effective is subject isolation because of the f4 max aperture. Whether that matters will depend on your shooting style.
