But look at this sample with the 50 1.8G and the ugly bokeh in this particular shot (made on film, but it should not matter). Lenses made for good bokeh, like probably the 58 1.4? should look better.

That's what my finding was, though, too. The 1.8G has clearer (not uglier, but that's of course a matter of taste) bokeh, just at f/2.8 it's smoother.

You don't need a 58G to get good bokeh, though, as should be apparent from the comparisons, too.
