Cleaning 700D

I have just come from holiday during which I have used the 700D/18-135STM lens extensively. Because we were in desert like conditions I had to use sun cream all day. Unfortunatelt after 14 days, despite trying to wipe my hands as much as I could, the camera surface and exterior of the lens focusing ring have been coated with a sheen of sun cream. I am worried that pressurised rubbing with a lens cloth might cause fine scratches and dull the surface further. Also it is difficult to get into the corrugated nature of the lens focusing ring. Is there any safe way (despite the length of time it my take) to remove that sheen and bring the camera surface back to its normal appearance. Thank you for any advice you may offer.
