X-S1 part II
Had to buy one- the price is just too good.
I reviewed one for Fujifilm a while back (as a loaner), just a preview actually, but the recent rash of good superzooms and my HS50EXR review has me revved up to use a superzoom again.
I cut my teeth in digital with good superzooms like the F828 and R1, and have used several Fuji SZ's in the past as well. Even fresh off the HS50EXR review, and as much as I liked that camera for its price, I find the XS1 to definitely be a superior superzoom. Even though the reach isn't as much, it's better lens and sensor makes up for it, even on the long end where I find the images to be more detailed and rich than the HS50EXR.
Compared to the RX10, it's a much more versatile camera to use overall. The RX10 has better IQ in its range to be sure, but its not all that much better practically. The X-S1's lens range and macro capabilities are truly excellent and useful. I prefer the X-S1 over the RX-10 which some may find preposterous, but different strokes for different folks.
I bought a late production model (serial starts with 34) so it's not in the range of the old blooming sensor that plagued the X10 and early production runs of the X-S1. Also, the lens is tighter slightly and does not creep.
After revisiting this camera almost 2 years later, I'm actually more impressed this time around than my extended trial period (2 full months) with the first X-S1.
Image quality, build quality, the wonderful and underrated EVF, all stand out. It's controls are excellent, the menu easy to learn and navigate, and it does little to trip you up while shooting. In good light, this is one great all around camera. A wonderful choice for a vacation camera, or an everyday one camera solution.
Cheers,
Carl

I wonder if either the FZ1000 or RX10 could shoot the moon as well as the X-S1. The latter I know cannot for sure, the range is just not there.
