Every shot here could have been made as easily with the 180mm f2.8, and would have been as sharp and clear. The mountain better because less flair, well, I just do not know what to say. But on a D7100 you get a 300mm f2.8 lens and 24MP, and remember the little 135mm f2? That is a 200mm on 24MP at a fraction of the size and cost with greater resolution, and the same possibilities with extenders. If ever I need an extra stop of speed , thanks for reminding me of its existence. You just do not need VR with it or the 180mm at all- not in that light anyway.

Funny you bring up the 180. I also have that cute little lens. It's a great lens, but other than being dimunitive, I don't see where else it can hang with the 200 f/2:

CA? nope

AF speed? hells naw

Sharpness? In its dream

Aperture speed? Yes, if you stop down the 200 f/2 to f/4.

Color? Nope

Bokeh? Nope

Usability with TC's? Nope. the 180 only works with Kenko with mechanical linkage.. the 200/2 works with *ALL* AF-S TC's.

Bottom line is You can't compare a lens that costs $350 to a $4,000 one. You just can't.
