How do you "track" with the X-T1?

I tried it with the 56, but the camera seemed to constantly hunt forth and back and rarely able to lock focus.

My settings were:

AF-C (at the M/C/S switch in front-left of the camera)

Focus Area: Focus square one size bigger than the smallest square

Release/Focus Priority: Both FOCUS

Instant AF Setting: AF-S (however I am quite sure this has nothing to do with tracking performance)

AF Mode: Area ("Multi" does not seem to know where to focus)

Pre-AF: Off

The subject was a tennis player wearing a bright red dress against a faint blue background, so there was sufficient contrast at the scene.

With these settings, when the camera could lock focus, which happened quite rarely, it did not ever seem to "track" my subject either. As long as I held the shutter released, the camera kept taking photos but it did not seem to AF or move the focus square between the shots.

So what am I missing?
