You are a way better photographer than I am!

Every shot here could have been made as easily with the 180mm f2.8, and would have been as sharp and clear.

Hi!

I've seen many wonderful 180 2.8 shots.

But you are able get comparable shots to "every shot" below with a 180 2.8? Really?

I wouldn't have a clue how to get all of these these with an 180 f/2.8, and have the same keeper rate, focusing accuracy in poor light, bokeh, degree of background blur, not to mention hand holding at relatively slow shutter speeds.

I'm absolutely fascinated in seeing some examples of yours using a 180 2.8.

My hat is definitely off to you!

Some 200VR pics:

Candid of Street Musician. The blurred out background was a bunch of cars, pedestrians, and store front light in San Francisco's Union square:

I suspect that my 70-200VR with a 1.4TC I would not have captured this as well as the 200VR with the TC:

This cat was taken through a mesh wire fence. I don't think the 70-200VR would have blurred it out quite as nicely:

Sharp (even hand held at 1/160 sec)?

Doesn't lose much of the 'magic' with a 1.4TC (well, maybe a touch):

I prefer shooting at 400mm with the 200VR/TC 20 E III over the 200-400VR; It's easier to hand hold, and the images are just as good if not better:

Even though it doesn't focus very close, if so inclined, you can pop on extension tubes, even stacked with a TC, and photograph little things:

Oh, and the 200VR is great at landscapes as well:

The mountain better because less flair, well, I just do not know what to say.

I guess my eye is not keen enough  to spot the flair on the mountain shot....

But on a D7100 you get a 300mm f2.8 lens and 24MP, and remember the little 135mm f2? That is a 200mm on 24MP at a fraction of the size and cost with greater resolution, and the same possibilities with extenders. If ever I need an extra stop of speed , thanks for reminding me of its existence. You just do not need VR with it or the 180mm at all- not in that light anyway.

I hadn't realized that the only thing 200VR added to the 180 2.8 was one stop of speed. Thanks for reminding me of its existence!

I notice that you are widely published (I'm not...) and have experience in all formats, so there's a lot I could learn from you!

I'm really looking forward to seeing your  180 2.8 shots!

Thanks!
