F4 is a full stop brighter than f5.6, of course, and that can make a big difference. Plus, an f4 constant zoom would be a good middle ground between a kit lens and an f2.8 pro lens in terms of price. But I'd rather the constant f4 lens be a telephoto lens...a replacement for my Olympus 40-150mm f4-5.6 at a much lower price than the upcoming f2.8 pro zoom. I'm an enthusiast, not a professional, so I think the middle ground is important. Especially for sports and wildlife.
