Nikon D610 or 6D ? Which has better ergonomics?

Not to sound sarcastic or anything of that nature...

Try them out in a store and see how each one feels in your hands. The one that fits and works comfortably in your hands will be the best in terms of ergonomics.
I think you will find this is a very subjective matter. Everyone's hands are different and the overall button layout often comes down to what you are used to. I recently upgraded from a D300s to the D610 and although not identical the feel and controls felt very familiar.

Since you don't know the ergonomic studies that went into the design, you will not know which camera has better achieved usability amongst its target demographic. In any case, ergonomics only ensures that a design is averagely well suited to an average individual. Since you are an individual, you will have your own likes and dislikes, not to mention your own hand dimensions, which the ergonomists cannot have known or taken account of. If you want to know which is more usable for you, then you need to try both and find out.

It seems you already own the 6D. Is there something about it that is troubling you?..

Maybe he just wants to be told that its better than a D610.

Or having buyer's regret because someone has told him the 610 is better (or worse has looked at the DxO scores).

I was window shopping the canon 6D, and looking for a flash for it...

Personally, I have held a rebel t3i of and nikon d5200 .. .. Through other photographer's equipment.. so I haven't had much in depth hands on with either/or...

and borrowing others equipment does not bode well for me ...

I wasnt sure a store would let me try it out... Since it is usually locked into place... with an alarm...

But Ill go now and check it out..

Went to a local store, they had both the 6D and D610... The D610 feels good to me..

Apart from the small advantage of the Nikon viewfinder it's a matter of personal opinion.

I noticed your other thread where you're looking for bulk for students.

So it's not for you personally? But for a range of people (students)?

It's hard to say since (as stated) each person will feel different about it. Some will be fine, others not so.

Neither has better ergonomics, they have different ergonomics.

Historically, Canon has gone with electronic controls and mode buttons for adjusting exposure settings, and Nikon has gone with dedicated controls for exposure setting adjustment. As time has gone on, Nikon has moved toward the Canon method, though one left over is the dedicated drive mode (Nikon "release mode") dial still on their cameras - which means drive mode is not part of user settings.

Another example of the difference is that Canon switches the front dial from aperture to shutter speed in Av and Tv modes, using the back dial for EC, unless in manual when front sets shutter and rear sets aperture. Nikon dedicates on dial to shutter and one dial to aperture, and you must press a button to control EC, or ISO, etc. which is more consistent/more like having dedicated controls.

This thread is for me and the other is for the students, they're separate.

I'm using this account to post questions from a multitude of people that ask me the questions.

For the bulk, they just need cameras to take photos, since they have nothing... Somethings better than nothing, though I wouldn't want a "something" that's limited. Generally, any camera can take a great photo, once you have the right lighting.. I got a couple of recommendations on what to do about it though.

Kidding. but not really I love the ergonomics and grip of it and its tiny, great camera and you can find it used for 1200$. (Same sensor as the D610 btw).

If you any travel or street then i would NEVER EVER buy a D610 or 6D they are huge and weigh a ton.
