Provided that you do not under-expose, you...well, I am...comfortable going to ISO6400. If the chroma noise is excessive, simply turn the image to monochrome, and poof! all chroma disappears leaving you with a nice grainy B/W image. ISO6400 can be very useable still. Don't shy away from it.
