A6000 Focus Tracking - Overhyped

Ok guys so I just started using the A6000 for tracking my little ones. The camera set up is as follows:

Lens: Sony 50mm 1.8 OSS

Exposure Mode: P (camera choose 1/100, F4)

Drive mode: Continuous Fast

Focus Area: Zone (the little focus points limited to the centre of the frame (Zone) and not to Wide)

Focus Mode: Continuous i.e. the little focus points showing up

Kids were moving towards me at a slow pace

ISO Auto (was kept to 100)

Results: All photos blurry. Not a single keeper. Is it because the shutter speed 1/100 too slow?

Seems to me the focus tracking might be over hyped on this model or only working in "ideal" lighting conditions. Am I doing something wrong or should I just lower expectations?
