Nothing much wrong here other than perhaps your selection of f2.8. (wide open.) For more 'punch' if you will, you could have tried EV -1/3, "VIVID" coloration setting, and in strong contrast situations (not here) using DRO. But all of that is up to you, it's whatever effect you like. It's still a nice snapshot.

Not much bokeh with the S. 30; the Z. 32 or the E 35 would have more bokeh.

It's a 30mm lens not 50mm and f2.8 not 1.2.. you can not change physics. For what it the Sigma is it's doing a good job. It's not a classic portrait lens just normal.
You are right about the FL! but my picture was taken with a 50mm lens and at F4. You asked what was so bad about the bokeh, I just explained it. Yes it is partial the FL, but it is the way this lens handles the bokeh.

This lens is very sharp and in many ways a very good lens, but the bokeh is not the strongest point of this lens, therefor are other lenses better, but more expensive too. Don't forget the price of the Sigma is that low and the IQ is so good (read sharp and distortion free (well almost then)) that you should expect some down sides. As this is not a real portrait lens it is not a big deal.

Sony has a 30, too, the oft-forgotten E30/3.5 macro. It has more bokeh than the Sigma 30, nice colors and will take the UWA adapter from the 16/2.8!

Mine works fine, got it for 1/2 price when a Sony Store closed down.
