but going back in the day, I was actually referring to what the consumer, including hobbyists, had to pay. Getting high quality prints was prohibitively expensive. Thankfully digital has swept away most of the price gouging that went on back then and made photography much more accessible to everyone.

I was in the custom lab business "back in the day". You seem to be one of those people that feel a business should be able to pay for it's equipment by taking money off the tree where it grows in the back yard and pay their people in peanuts.

$4.45 for a 5x7!!!

If it's a custom, hand printed picture from a negative, I don't see anything wrong with that price. Or do you really expect people to work for a couple of dollars an hour?
