Yep, plus that the actual size of the focus area is slightly larger.

The size of the focus area shown as a green box is optimistically small compared to the actual area used. Especially when the contrast of the subject is rather low and the surrounding area has high contrast and is much easier to focus on the camera will pick the slightly larger area. This reduces the risk of focus hunting but in this specific case causes the camera to focus where you don't want.
