maybe first test should be you print same picture with Merrill and D800E both at A1. compare both using same printer and paper. there is no better judge than thyself on looking both pictures on hand. I think there is no point on trying to convince others basing on opinion, yes?

if contrast makes illusion of depth of perception, then in itself does render difference in perception and actuality in 3D. besides, isn't 3D an illusion as well?

3D has also category of which is better or with more depth. passive or active, stacking, double-image, side by side, etc...  heck, even lenses have debate on lens having 3D effect, but that is another kind of 3D. so sensor can be another. why not?
