D810 Meets Hummingbird

Took a break this afternoon with a few colleagues to try to grab a few hummingbird shots. Thought it would be fun to see how the 810 handled the task..

D810, handheld (NO tripod), Nikon 300mm f/4, AF-C with Group Area AF, ISO 125 or 200, shutter speed 1/200, aperture f/10 or f/11. Lighting 4 basic generic speedlights fired by radio trigger.

I normally shoot just RAW, but for this exercise, used fine large JPEGS...

All in all, I was pleased with the camera's tracking and accurate focus. Keeper rate was quite good.

Files cropped to emphasize the hummingbird detail.

View at 100% to get an idea of detail. Have to admit, I'm not a bird photographer, but trying to catch these little birds was a lot of fun.
