A6000 AF-C or AF-A speed question

Hi guys. I've dearly enjoyed my A6000 and I've taken some photos I'm really proud of. However, I'm disappointed by the speed of the AF-C (or AF-A with moving subjects). The photos below show what I mean with crops of kitty checking out my bowl after lunch (A6000, kit lens, AF-C, ISO 1000, F/6.3):

First photo, not bad focusing on his hair

Second photo (AF-C on him constantly) - what the heck? His head wasn't moving, but the camera couldn't focus.

Still have AF-C on, but still not good. What the heck? He's not very far away, light was fine, and this is what I get? I don't understand.

So what do you think guys? Am I expecting too much from the AF-C?

Happy novice.
