Blowing up the image by 2x magnification, and interpolating the pixels to get a 16MP image. Not a great idea, but if you need the extra reach it could be worth it.

The 2x jpeg result is pretty good if you avoid the usual shake/shock issues. I use it sometimes with my Pana 45-150mm on E-PL5 and the result is perfectly good for any screen view or for prints up to A4 or 8x10 inch size. Cheap way to get "300mm" on M4/3.

Using the RAW and doing the same crop can deliver a slightly better result but there's not much in it, the 2x jpeg is quite impressive.

For convenience I have assigned the E-PL5 Red button to 2x as I don't do video much, plus it saves having those accidental videos of my feet.

All this takes me back to my 3MP Oly C-730 back in 2002. It had a native 3MP jpeg or a choice of an 8MP interpolated version that was designed for their dye-sub printer of the time. I usually used the 8MP interpolated jpeg as severe pixel peeping revealed to me that some interpolation magic was happening and a slightly better result came from the 8MP jpeg when compared to the 3MP one, the fine detail was just a bit better.

Regards.... Guy
