Primes are great but if it is something theatrical I would suggest a zoom.

You probably cannot move closer or further to the subject and you need to frame closer sometimes.

A 50-150 2,8 or 70-210 2,8 is the best and very high ISO, short shutter speed and shoot then 2,8 lens at 3,2 or similar. Sometimes I put the cam and lens on a video tripod you can frame fast and free (don't have to tighten knobs) And it helps with longer shutter speeds a bit. (no porter option of course). Yes actors move bust sometimes they stop and that is the moment you have to expose.
