Have been a happy Olympus e-620 with the 12-60 lens user for the past few years. Unfortunately the hot shoe is broken (and the repair would cost more than the camera is worth) which makes the camera not useful in anything less than broad daylight (in good light I still like the camera and love the lens). Anyway, grabbed the NX2000 last week when Amazon put it on sale. Have looked through the forum here and have read matteverglade.com but was wondering if there are any other sources/recommendations for basic camera setup (for example, I shoot raw and do simple developing in Lightroom so do people recommend noise reduction off or low or what). It doesn't seem that there has been a lot of discussion of this particular camera and none of the websites that I regularly read seem to have reviewed it in full (don't need a review to justify my purchase but often they give insight into using a camera to its best). Thanks in advance for your assistance.
I haven't used the NX2000 at all, but same sensor as the other newer Samsung cameras. If you are shooting RAW, the noise reduction and other settings don't really matter. I just leave mine at default and go from there.
It looks like people got great deals on the NX2000 recently, and I hope you enjoy it. Looks like a great camera.
So for RAW with my NX30:
- I like to use Auto ISO set to Auto (linked to focal length) but adjusted 1 stop towards fast.
- Pick a good fast memory card. Not all class 10 cards are created equal. SanDisk Extreme SD card for example (purchased in retail packaging from reputable store to avoid fakes).
- Keep your battery more than half charged, I find when it gets below 30% or so the camera slows down a lot (at least on my NX30). At least it seems that way to me (can't shoot as fast without waiting on buffer).
- The RAW buffer is a bit small on most of the NX models (makes back to back shooting of RAW files slower).
- Use included Lightroom for editing, but sounds like you already use Lightroom.
- Tip: Lightroom automatically corrects distortions on some lenses for NX cameras.
