If shallow DOF is needed, the RX100 cannot compete with larger sensors and fast lenses. Nobody ever said it could.

But there are plenty situations where greater DOF is desired, and a large sensor makes that difficult as you then need to stop down significantly which forces an ISO bump up. With the RX100 you can still use it wide open and take advantage of available light without compromising quality.

One needs to understand the limitations and embrace the positive attributes. The little RX100 can never replace a dedicated SLR, but it is awesome for many other things.
