Packing your kit bag

Packing my kit bag with the lenses in individual cases takes up more space than letting them nestle against each other, this is obvious. It also makes it a bit quicker to change lenses, too.  But, with some of the lighter, plastic housed lenses, I feel safe letting them sit next to each other, such as the 9-18mm, 14-42mm, and 40-150mm.

How do you pack your kit bag, regarding the lenses?  Do you pamper them, or are they ok touching as long as they are in a secure(not able to roll/move around), padded portion of your bag?
