FL and viewing distanceRe: D810 Observations: Focusing & Shutter Speed

Not sure what to make of the 1/500 and 1/1000 requirements being listed in this thread. I'm not saying you wont get additional critical sharpness but I've taken many handheld photos on my D800 at low shutter speeds and couldn't detect any blur @ 100%. Here's a thread I created back when I first started shooting my D800 with some handheld samples in the 1/50 to 1/80 range.

That depends heavily on the FL used, one thing is WA, other tele, VR, no-VR. At 100% on the typical monitor you will be getting an image totalizing about 90x60 inches, and that has to be taken into account when looking for lower limiting values of speed at each FL for handheld shooting (of course, it varies with steadiness of one's hands). My calculation is that 1/500 at 70mm (no VR) is pretty much the safe 1/FL rule at 100% (90x60"), from up to 2ft distance viewing.
