Going to more and more show openings by enthusiasts

I've noticed that more and more people are doing photo shows. And the public is responding. I joined a photo club last year and we put on 6 shows. Some of our prints were more than 6 feet long. We got a print shop to do that but we now have an A2 size printer (hoping for an A0 size one).

I have a friend who is fairly limited technically (she's struggling with Lightroom). She produced a book last year.

It's possible because modern technology makes it easier for an enthusiast to get good prints and books, even when the persons expertise is limited. But the better the input, the better the result. A D800/D810 is the right sort of tool for us.
