Re: Suggestions for camera/lens combo for Italy

Keep your T2i, its a fine camera and you'll only get one marginally better even today. If you rent or buy another now its likely you won't have it mastered before you go.  Unless you have a much more understanding traveling companion who will let you take many experimental shots to dial it in there is no point taking something you are not real familiar with on a vacation.

I just got back from Italy.  I packed a Sigma 10-20, a Tamron 17-50 and a 55-300. I had the Sigma on within the cities (Rome, Naples, Sorrento). For Pompeii and Herculaeum and just about everywhere else I had the 17-50. I almost never used the 55-300.

My advice would be to keep the T2i and rent or buy a 15-85.  Most of my shots were in that range.  Don't bother taking any other lens - its just weight.
