Something like 900x600 line pairs.

You do have to specify whether you mean resolution (line pairs) or number of pixels. Generally the number of line-pairs will be less than half the number of pixels, because of AA and de-mosaicing.

An image on film has resolution but no pixels.

If you want to talk about the resolution of a sensor, or a printer, (as opposed to image resolution) then you could use line-pairs per mm.
