From screen to paper?

Looking for suggestions from some of you more experienced hands. Now that I've started getting a few more keepers, I'd like to have some frameable copies for myself and family. I've never done any monitor/printer calibration so, as you would expect, what looks "just right" on my monitor looks way different in the print version. I don't have professional aspirations so I don't want to spend a lot of $$ on expensive hardware and/or software. I'm sure I'm not the only one who has ever dealt with this issue. Here's my starting point:

  • Windows 8.1 on Gateway/Intel i5 box w/8G ram and onboard video
  • Acer S220HQLAbd monitor (cheap but has been fine for my usage)
  • Epson Artisan 810 printer (though I prefer to send out for larger than snapshots)
  • Lightroom 5.4 for processing/printing

Though I said I don't want to spend a lot of money, I would be willing to spend *some* if it saves me time and frustration. So tell me how you would tackle this problem.
