not fair, the photo with 16-35 f2.8II was taken with f2.8 aperture, and f4.0IS with f4.0. i am sure that is why the f2.8 shot looks brighter and better. will, i am for the f2.8II in this comparison

brighter would make no difference between the two, that's just metering.  probably in a store with florescent lighting.

you are paying the money to use the 2.8L at 2.8 not at 4.0 so it's pretty valid actually.
