Re: One of those not right
The way I think of it is that the Quattro can be used as a great companion camera - either with a smart-phone or a DSLR as your primary, with the Quattro reserved for more important images (or used in place of a specific prime in the case of a DSLR).
DSLR additions is where DPs have always filled in (though a Mirrorless or something like an RX10/FZ1000 is better as a Phone companion),
I think the issues with the Quattro are 1:- they changed the shape too much , the guy may not have much of a clue how to process X3Fs (for a start he wasn`t using SPP which is the first big mistake) but you can`t argue with the holding business he demonstrated, all that handle end thingy end no real grip, or thumb space ......
2:- I`ve yet to see where it improves on the Merrill (apart from build quality) , OK , I`m still on the original DP but there have been a lot of examples showing the merrills to be superior in areas to the Quattro for image quality (I guess the compromised foveon-esque sensor was necessary to get the pixel count up, I`m sure they`d have used a proper Foveon chip if they could) and despite the size, they still didn`t manage to get the battery life much past Merrill or original DP level ..
3:- and this is my personal opinion, they should have moved with the times on focal length - I can`t be the only one who thinks the tight FOV of both the 1 & 2 lenses misses ? . IMO the DP1Q should have a 24mm FOV and the DP2Q a 35mm FOV - I`ve always thought the DP2 series should have been a 35mm FOV and the likes of the X100 series and the Leica X1/2 work well there.. The Quattros have more room for cropping too.
