Too true. I've been waiting since the SD10 for an "improved" Sigma body with faster processing time, better low light performance, better AF, etc. and except for a few incremental improvements, the best exemplified by the SD15, have finally given up. I just have to assume it's in the nature of the Foveon design and nothing can alter that.

Sigma's design philosophy seems to be "three steps forward and two backward," again best exemplified by the Quattro with improved color and processing speed and worse microcontrast. But I put up with it (begrudgingly) because, short of returning to film, there's nothing else on the market I like the output from better.

The raw low res result has me convinced that the DPxQ is really a much improved SD15 foveon with a hi-res option. Sheer brilliance from Sigma, I think, and I think it is a real improvement over the SD15, the best Foveon implementation so far.

See low res result here:

It is in a sense, just as you say, a much improved "SD15," which should be very quick in general use, and provide superb results and much smaller files. The plain fact is that most people and images do not require D800 levels of detail and data, and are not necessarily improved by it.

The image you linked to contains excellent detail and color. I imagine people pictures will look great with low res. And it should be much more forgiving with lenses.

And it's going to make for a very good and versatile DSLR if and when they stick the sensor in a properly modified SD1....
