thanks Tom. what I noticed with Sigma files and SPP is they much more forgiving than sharpening and contrast adjustments  with Bayer files.  I do high contrast pictures and I love high contrast pictures. problem is that they tend to show artifacts and halo effect when I get desired contrast amount on picture. with Merrill, I do not need to go or encounter such problem. with pictures I have seen with Quattro so far, it is more manageable than Bayer. I agree on premise that Quattro is more on balance side of Foveon.
