Carpel Tunnel and holding a camera

I have carpel tunnel syndrome in my left hand/wrist. I use a carpal tunnel wrist support at night. Otherwise, the doctor said my condition is not bad enough to require surgery at this time.

Yesterday, I spent about two hours hand-holding my Canon EOS M with the kit 18-55mm taking video. I take photos holding a camera in my left hand.

Boy, am I suffering today!

Will I have no alternative but to use a smaller camera? My EOS M is fairly new and a used Panasonic FZ200 Superzoom is in the mail to me. A tripod, for the kind of photos I take, is out of the question.

Does anyone have any suggestions for using a camera with this condition? I've searched the web but there is very little info I can find that relates specifically to camera users.

Thank you!
