Since you mention newspapers, it is fair to say photojournalists typically get an ID from a parent of a photo of one or two kids. In this situation, parents sometimes ask that the pic not be used. Most photojournalists will oblige and not run the photo.

I don't disagree with you that times have changed. However, technology has also changed. Ten or twenty years ago we didn't see the massive photo posting that we see now. Sometimes it isn't the photographing people oppose, sometimes it is the public posting. Nowadays everyone can be an editor, but the average person doesn't follow the ethical codes of NPPA, SPJ, or ASNE.
