What exactly are "Long Exposure NR" and "High ISO NR"?

In my NEX-3N manual, it says

"Sets the noise reduction processing for long exposure shootings."

"Sets the noise reduction processing for high ISO sensitivity shootings."

Which is equivalent to saying "Cruise control is a controller for cruising".

What exactly do they do? My camera has the option of "On/Off" for former and "Normal" and "Low" for latter.

Does it affect RAW file? I found somewhere about Nikon camera which High ISO NR does a dark frame subtraction. And exposure is doubled because dark frame is obtained using the same amount of time for exposure. And it is hinted that the RAW file is affected.

I can't find anywhere what it does on NEX.
