As far as I can see, making a 39Mp foveon would be a non sens. If you bring back big pixels you bring back the pop, plain and simple.

So I rather want to see a 19 or 24 Mp full frame sensor. Files will be huge but not that huge and this camera would have the edge on many other actual and future dslr because of the bigger sensor. Bigger sensor is the way IMHO, not more MP.

Well I for one would LOVE to have a 117 MP (39x3) full-frame Merrill camera. It would have slightly smaller photo-sites than the Merrill has, but I think going to a slightly smaller pixel pitch would not make much difference, especially if they do a little more development, and reduce wall thickness by 5% or something like that. Remember that the 24 MP Nikon D7100 has a pixel pitch of 3.9 µm - smaller than what a 39 MP full-frame sensor would have, and 24 MP APS-C sensors have been around for quite some time now. They're working fine and getting better all the time (just look at the image quality from the cheap little D5300).

You might think Sigma couldn't make a camera with the speed to handle such a high resolution, but they've had years to double their processing speed, and with a larger camera they could put two of the new True III processors in it. Besides, even if the camera can only shoot at 5 fps and have only a 9 frame buffer it would be an amazing thing. The full-frame viewfinder would be GREAT! Such a camera with a 50mm f1.4 A on it would be the king. Even if the build quality is no better than the SD1 it would be fine. I'd like it to have live view though.

Now, imagine a full-frame Quattro with the same pixel pitch as the Nikon D7100 on the top layer. It would have about 48 MP top layer and 12 MP per layer under that. Not much difference from today's Quattro really. But boy would it capture some fine detail in photos! I'd LOVE such a camera with the amazing new Sigma 50mm f1.4 A and the, amazing Sigma 180mm f2.8 EX DG OS HSM APO Macro.
