No, it's some trick way to pre-cock the shutter and hold with a solenoid, so that it will release a bit faster. Downsides are extra power consumed, also an accidental bump can release the shutter and needs to turn off and on to reset it.

I use E-PL5 without that feature and have 1/8 anti-shock delay to help avoid possible shock problems and as usual it's all a matter of anticipating how fast the camera operates and press the shutter a bit before the peak of the action. Just a matter of knowing the camera.
