Noise analysis of a sensor of today: is 19EV dynamic range possible?

(After working on this for 8 years ;-)) I finally wrote down an analysis of how postprocessing affects the dynamic range of a sensor. (On example of NEX-6; the initial analysis I had years ago was for α100, and it had 2 stops less in the dynamic range.) I put it down in Trading resolution for noise (on example of NEX-6) .

Comments welcome,

Ilya

Warning: some parts of the text are addressed to people who are not scared by the fact that mixing independent sources of noise is related to taking a square root. However, I tried to organize the text so that math-deprived people should be able to skip the technical details, and be able to concentrate on effects on practical photography (cannot promise that I succeeded ;-)).
