You were wrong all along.

You can't always shoot at f10 or less.

So what makes the corners sharp at f/10 would not make the slightest difference at f/4? You just point and shoot without thinking about where the focal plane is?

Have you checked what the DOF is at 16mm, f/4? Did the OP made even the slightest effort to find the focus distance that would maximize the sharpness across the frame, exactly because sometimes you need to shoot at f/4?
